Chief Parliamentary Secretary of Punjab


With the induction of 6 new CPS in Punjab government in April 2016 (Darshan Singh Shivalik, Gurtej Singh Ghuriana, Gurpratap Singh Wadala, Seema Kumari, Sukhjit Kaur Sahi, Manjit Singh Mianwind) and removal of one existing CPS Inderbir Singh Bolaria, the total number of CPS in Punjab government has become 24 (19 + 6 - 1).
There are total 24 Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) of Punjab government. Amongst the total 24 CPS in Punjab, 19 belong to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and 5 are from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). The chief parliamentary secretaries are appointed by the chief minister and selected from the MLAs of the state assembly. The duty of a parliamentary secretary is to assist the cabinet minister of his department. The total number of CPS in Punjab government is more than the number of cabinet ministers of Punjab.

NOTE: 1. When SAD-BJP formed the government in 2012, total 21 MLAs were inducted as chief parliamentary secretaries. Mr. Amarjit Singh Sahi of BJP, the CPS for Revenue department and MLA from Dasuya assembly constituency in Hoshiarpur district, died in June 2012. So the number of CPS became 20.
2. Sohan Singh Thandal of Shiromani Akali Dal, was made CPS of Irrigation department when the govt was formed in 2012. Later on, he was elevated to the rank of cabinet minister in June 2014 and hence the number of CPS was reduced to 19.
3. In April 2016, 6 new CPS were inducted and one existing CPS (Inderbir Singh Bularia) was removed, thus the total number of CPS became 24. The last six CPS given in the following list (from number 19 to 24) were included in April 2016.
4. In April 2016, name of Pargat Singh, MLA from Jalandhar Cantt, was also announced to be included as chief parliamentary secretary. But he declined the post and did not participate in oath taking ceremony.

  1. Chaudhary Nand Lal
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for two departments - 1) Forests and Wild Life, 2) Labour. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Balachaur constituency in Nawanshahr district.
  2. Sant Balvir Singh Ghunas
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for two departments - 1) Tourism, Cultural Affairs, Archives and Museums, 2) Jails. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Dirba constituency in Sangrur district.
  3. Des Raj Dhugga
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for two departments - 1) Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, 2) Dairy Development. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Sri Hargobindpur constituency in Gurdaspur district.
  4. Harmeet Singh Sandhu
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for Public Works department. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Tarn Taran constituency in Tarn Taran district.
  5. Mantar Singh Brar
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for Rural Development and Panchayats department. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Kot Kapura constituency in Faridkot district.
  6. Mohinder Kaur Josh
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for department of Medical Education and Research. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Sham Chaurasi constituency in Hoshiarpur district.
  7. Avinash Chander
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for Higher Education & Languages department. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Phillaur constituency in Jalandhar district.
  8. K.D. Bhandari
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for Co-operation department. He is a member of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and is MLA from Jalandhar North constituency in Jalandhar district.
  9. Amarpal Singh Ajnala
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for Technical Education and Industrial Training Institutes department. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Ajnala constituency in Amritsar district.
  10. Gurbachan Singh Babbehali
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for Agriculture department. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Gurdaspur constituency in Gurdaspur district.
  11. Virsa Singh Valtoha
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for two departments 1) Water Supply and Sanitation, 2) Defence Services Welfare. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Khem Karan constituency in Tarn Taran district.
  12. N.K. Sharma (Narinder Kumar Sharma)
    He is chief parliamentary secretary for Industries and Commerce department. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Dera Bassi constituency in Mohali district.

    He is chief parliamentary secretary for >Social Security and Development of Women and Children department. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Malerkotla constituency in Sangrur district.

    He is chief parliamentary secretary for Excise and Taxation department. He is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and is MLA from Bathinda constituency in Bathinda district.

  19. Manjit Singh Mianwind
