Congress Candidates List 2017 Punjab (29 Jan 2017) - Congress is one of the main political parties in Punjab and has fielded its candidates from all 117 assembly seats of Punjab. It is contesting the elections under the leadership of Captain Amrinder Singh, who is also the chief minister face of the party and has also hired well known political strategist Prashat Kishor for the upcoming elections. Some highlights of this candidate list is given below:

• In the 2012 assembly elections, Congress party won 46 seats. It lost 4 seats in byelections, hence it currently has 42 MLAs in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
• Punjab Congress has given tickets to 33 sitting MLAs from their current constituency, out of its total 42 MLAs.
• The seats of 3 current MLAs - Joginder Singh Panjgraian, Mohammad Sadiq, Ajaib Singh Bhatti are shifted and they are given tickets from some other segments.
• The party has not given tickets to 6 of its current MLAs. On most of these seats, some other family member is given ticket.
• Congress has fielded only 11 women candidates in the coming elections, which is less than 10% of the total seats. Although at many platforms, it talks about providing 33% reservation to women.
• Captain Amrinder Singh is the only Congress candidate who is contesting from two seats Patiala and Lambi. Patiala is his home constituency from which he has won elections in 2002, 2007 and 2012. From Lambi he is contesting against the akali stalwart and current CM Parkash Singh Badal.
• Rana Gurjit Singh, the Congress candidate from Kapurthala constituency, is the richest candidate amongst with total assets worth Rs. 170 crore. Other congress candidates who are amongst top 10 richest candidates in Punjab are - Karan Kaur Brar (119 Crore) and Kewal Singh Dhillon (89 Crore).

The election commission of India has announced the schedule of assembly elections in Punjab. The voting for the all 117 assembly seats will be held on 4th Feb and the couting of votes will be done on 11th March. For more details, check the page Punjab Election 2017 Dates.
