Sangrand 2026
Chet is the first month of the year according to the Bikrami Samvat calendar and hence the sangrand of Chet month is considered as the new year day. Sangrand in January 2026
Desi month Magh (ਮਾਘ in Punjabi) will start on this date. Magh is the eleventh month of the year according to Bikarmi Samvat (Vikram Samvat) year.
The festival of Maghi (ਮਾਘੀ) is observed on the sangrand of Magh month and hence the Maghi is on 14th Jan 2026. The Sankranti or Sangrand of Magh month is also known as Makar Sankranti.

Puranmashi January 2026
The night of Full Moon is called as Puranmashi (Pooranmashi or Punia) in Punjabi and the hindi word for this is Purnima. On this night, moon is visible as full circle and brighter than other days.
